For real-time communication, we use the federated messaging platform Matrix. We host our own server for users with IPA accounts.
Connecting to the service
Logging into the Matrix server assumes you have a FOSS Galaxy IPA account. You can use any Matrix client, and we provide a self-hosted copy of Element.
Your matrix account is of the format: @username:fossgalaxy.com
NOTE: When using 3rd party clients, you may need to specify the server as matrix.fgmx.uk if auto-discovery fails.
Rooms
There are a number of specialised rooms, which are available in the Matrix Space.

Services
There are a number of useful services which are available on our Matrix server.
- The matrix-native bot, Maubot is active in some rooms
- Our tried and tested protocol-agnostic bot, Errbot remains in service
- The main rooms are bridged to Libera Chat using a private bridge
- The server has bridges to Telegram and Discord (guild only)
- The server federates and shares its room index
We have suspended some of the other bridges due to the terms of services of those platforms.
